I take it from your comment about lettering that the car has
a spelled-out road name. This style was introduced in 1946, so the 1940 reweigh date is obviously obsolete; I assume you will change it anyway to reflect the era of your layout <g>.
Well...either that or the car will experience that rather strange phenomenon perhaps unique to Sherman Hill in which the area of the car where the reweigh date resides will become dirty...to the point where it cannot be read...due to the sandy dirt that is so easily picked up by the wind there.
