When I was at the Archives a couple of years ago, they also had a copy stand (you bring your own camera).
I don't know about the issues of bringing photo gear into the building, but you probably can't bring in a
camera bag. They do have free lockers where you could stash excess gear, though it wouldn't be much
further to trot out to your car.

I might add that it pays to get there early. The time for a pull is very long, and can eat up much of
your research time.

Since you have to be there to look for things, there is a very good alternative. In the research room there is one of those Kodak machines to make prints. I made several at $5.75 each and they are great. This process does not build up contrast like so many copy methods do. I will use this method to get everything I want there.
