Prior to WWII, Des Moines was home to a Ford plant. The plant shut down in
the 30's, but parts distribution continued until the building was sold to
Solar Aircraft Company during the war. In 1958 the building became Des
Moines Technical High School. The building still stands, on the north side
of the DM river just west of downtown, on the Rock Island mainline. The
M&StL used the RI for access to DM & the MILW also went past the building. I
don't know which one served the plant.
