I think you answered your own question. If the goat is facing the end of the
car, it's "front facing". If it's facing to the side, it's "side facing".

The GN faithful refer to "front-facing goat" and "side-facing goat."
In some GN monograms the goat appears to face parallel to the side of the
car and in other the goat appears to be looking out towards an observer
looking at the car's side.

Which is which?
