Doug,

Trucking beat out rail transportation of beef and pork in 1935 and never looked back. By 1950 trucks were hauling nearly 70% of cattle and hogs. The only majority haul for the railroads was sheep and lambs which hovered around 65-70% into the mid 1950's.
