Cool image. Another little detail of note - on the car in the right foreground notice how the brake wheel staff goes through the roof of the car.
Those "boxes" on the caboose roofs are very likely marker light holders. These show up in numerous very early era (ACW and immediately after) photos showing early cabooses.
