I will second this and yes read it right TESTOR CHROME SILVER. It is a far superior primer to white because as Jim says you need less. The key is to let it dry and in your case in the sun under a protective cover.    (see my brothers articles in Mainline Modeler regarding reefer modeling) Your top coat will lay down much more opaque.

I use good ol  Testers  ( Chrome silver ) It goes on real thin, covers well and if kit bashing it will show you in no easy terms Where you need to work !! be it sand , fill or smooth out your work. I have been doing this for more years than I car to talk about. And the light color doesn't take a lot to cover.the silver = less paint more detail.
