Those three different mixes may all have been perfect for some SP car at some date.  
Personally, I doubt that every drum of freight car red paint bought by the SP over
some few years all matched exactly.  I don't model SP especially, my focus is L&N.
But I pay attention to making sure not every hopper car is exactly the same color.
Not just weathered, but the L&N shopped for paints and changed sources over time.
And the low bidder could let the hue drift a bit from one batch to another.
Maybe SP (or anyones favorite road) might be different.  Some roads might have 
been more particular about their paint. But my guess is that for most roads getting
their exact shade of red was less important than durability and cost.

Ted--I can only take that chart at face value. There three different mixes cited for SP boxcars.
