Yes but Hill owned both the GN and 1/2 of the SP&S and he built the line.
The "GN" ownership of that segment was just a technicality that ended with
the BN merger.

Technically, that is not quite correct.�  A section of the GN linked the WP to the Oregon Trunk.�  Bieber was the connection between WP and GN, and Klamath Falls was the connection between GN and SP&S (Oregon Trunk).�  The GN's "California Extension" was built in order to complete the inside gateway because the NP wouldn't agree with having the SP&S build from K Falls to Bieber.�  So the WP and the SP&S did connect but they did so via the GN.
