A good reference book for UP freight cars if you can find one is “Union
Pacific Freight Cars 1936-51” Regarding the UP version of the 1937 AAR box car
design, that would be the B-50-19 and B-50-21 classes built in ‘37 and ‘38.
These did not have the ACR rivet pattern. The B-50-22 cars were built also
built in ‘38 and did have the ACR pattern. The book only has one photo of a
steel boxcar with the Overland herald, a 1948 built B-50-40 in 1954. So the
scheme is legit for 1953 era, but whether it was applied to any of the earlier
classes of boxcars??
