Here are two photos from the Library of Congress. The first photo implies that the cotton bales will be loaded into the refrigerator car behind the bales. The door opening for this car is about four feet wide. Is/was the typical cotton bale less that four feet across or perhaps these bales were to be loaded in the boxcar shown in the second photo?
