I agree with John. My stack of research on the PRR's paint and lettering schemes is over 150 pages, and just covers the 20th century. While fairly definitive, it also illustrates that in some cases it took several years to transition, due to the many class drawings that had to be prepared. Full implementation of the PRR's "Shadow Keystone" scheme of the mid-fifties, took over 2 years to fully document, and of course, never was fully applied due to the large number of cars that "never came home", or were in captive/dedicated service.toggle quoted messageShow quoted text

I am not aware of such a summary list of dates for freight car paint schemes. It would be a VERY long list considering the large number of railroads, car types number of lettering schemes and number of versions of evolving lettering schemes.
