Bill, I have felt this was always the case - the small dimension styrene strip square stock is slightly rectangular. When you think about it, this is actually somewhat reasonable - one dimension is determined by the thickness of the original sheet stock that the strip is cut from, the other dimension is determined by the sawing process used to cut the strip. It would be quite easy for one to deviate slightly from the other, even with a good faith attempt on Evergreen's part to make them the same.

The way I handle this is I take a strip out of the package, and then use a black magic marker to blacken one of the four sides. Then, as I do my construction, orient the strip so the blackened side always faces the same direction. It doesn't really matter which direction, as long as it is always the same. While this does not solve the problem entirely, at least all the strips applied this way have the error oriented the same way, and this helps lessen the impact of the problem.

As an aside, I'll say this: Bill, I've greatly appreciated your tutorial type posts to this list, they have helped me expand my modeling skills, I feel honored to be able to return that gift if even in the smallest of ways.

Subject: [RealSTMFC] Evergreen Styrene Quality Control

I often use Evergreen's 0.005 sheet styrene cutting it into any number of widths of strip or shapes (I have no actual life) and have through the years developed a feel for it. Recently while handling it I noticed it felt differently so I got my Mitutoyo Digital Caliper and found it to actually be 0.0065" thick. I have tried both calling and emailing Evergreen to let them know with no response.

Since then I bought some 2x2 styrene strip (#8202) and find it to be noticeably rectangular. Anyone else noticing slippage in quality control at Evergreen?

Wondering if anyone here might have a reliable way to contact Evergreen—maybe they know someone there? I am willing to make the contact, just need a way through the door so-to-speak.
