True enough.  Comedian Herb Shriner, whose humor was based upon his small-town upbringing, said,
"We haven't had so much excitement around here since that feller come through town with a dead whale on a flat car."

Shrine also said, "We had a newspaper in my town, but nobody read it; we knew what everybody was doing.
Well, we bought the paper occasionally, to see if they had been caught at it."
