Henry Clay Frick (1849-1919) organized the H. C. Frick Coke Company in 1871. The company was to become one of the largest coke-producing firms in the world. He sold this product to Andrew Carnegie, and became a millionaire by age 30.

Frick also became chairman of the Carnegie Steel Company, and played a major role in the formation of the giant U.S. Steel manufacturing concern. He also financed the construction of the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Reading Company.
