Hi List Members,

Nice photo taken 1927-04 at a Westmoreland Coal Company tipple showing several hoppers.

PRR 187306 is a PRR class H21a quad hopper from series 185132-197740

WCCo (Westmoreland Coal Company) 1806 and 1765 are twin hoppers built to PRR class GLa design from series WCCo 1701-1890.

Several coal companies that were located on the PRR purchased hoppers of PRR design for their private ownership - Westmoreland Coal Company was one of them. This allowed for ease of repair at a PRR shop should the need arise - spare parts would not be an issue. Furthermore, the PRR repair shop crew would already be thoroughly familiar with the design, minimizing the amount of head-scratching needed.
Enjoy!
