For what it's worth, let me put this one to rest right now.  As one of the organization team for the Prototype Rails events, there is certainly no ban on photography in the model display rooms.  There may occasionally be limitations on photography in the clinic presentations, due to copyright/ownership restrictions on the photos that may be shown during the clinics.  But items displayed in the model display room are always fair game.
