Re: SOU 36 foot truss rod box car

Fenton’s right. They came with T-brace, early and late Hutchins ends, but no buckeye end version have I heard of.  Westerfield has a good description of these car variants and models of each.

Interestingly, these were some of the latest truss rod boxcars built (1924-1928) in large numbers. Their smaller size fit nicely with the LTC and agricultural products, and the Southern found the cheaper cars also fit nicely with the budget.  They show up everywhere and Ted Culotta included them in the essential  freight car series. A few were converted to pulpwood cars in the 40’s but there were plenty throughout the 50’s.
