These cars have a built date of 1957, so when exactly did the
Northen Pacific start painting cars in the dark green scheme?

Shawn, you've got it backwards. The cars were delivered in dark
green -- that model was available from Branchline. The box car red
repaints were done as a special for the NP Historical Society. The
repainting began in the 1960's.
