Re: SP Boxcar Cabooses

Dennis and all,
The Rio Grande narrow gauge lines rebuilt some boxcars in the 4000 series into long cabooses at an early date...these cars lasted until the end of operations in 1967. I believe that the rebuilding amounted to "jacking up the number and rolling a new car under it", since there is very little resemblance to the original car. In the wooden car era (which lasted until the end of operations on the narrow gauge) this probably was a common practice, since the wood probably only had a 20 year life span in service. There are further documentation and photos in the R Robb series of photo books ===== Bill Daniels Tucson, AZ __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
