BCRail to CN

Denny Anspach <danspach@...>

For those interested, BCRail has just notified all of its employees that the BCRail infrastructure has been leased for 60 years by the CN for $1C Billion. This is will be phased in over three years. All rolling stock becomes CN. Prince George will eventually be the railroad's HQ (CN North Division), and the Squamish shops will apparently be eventually closed.

I am immensely saddened that such a fine and closely-knit railroad company has to come to an end. The conventional wisdom has been that BN/Omnitrax would be the probably victor because they were the most likely to maintain the BCRail close knit culture, their high standards of maintenance, and their current non-Federal Provincial regulation. Obviously this was not to be so.

Third party passenger services will be allowed.
