I have longed to find a stash of SHPX leasing records for the 1940s-50s, but to no avail thus far. I personally follow Richard's advice and model cars based on the available photos. In absence of in-service photos of specific cars that I want to model, I typically stick to the more plain-Jane schemes that were part of a general short-term leasing pool.
