Thanks Larry, I forgot about that! Would those cars have had a
"Warning" placard to air the car before entering? I imagine entering a
closed car with a charcoal heater could be hazardous to your health!

Back in the days I was on the RR and in this list's time frame NO warning on the out side. But when a RR worker had to enter it was on the way bill as a heated car with instructions . RR workers had been trained on how to handle them. I was told that there was a warning on the inside of the doors when opened for unloading
Also we would take a Hobo out every once in a while. He would get in to the end that did not have the heater and that was his end. There was only one heater to a car and they were put in the B end.
