Re: Gondola help
Richard and Clark, LL did do the EL scheme in a latter run. What they didn't do were partial Erie Repaints, where only the reportimg marks were changed. (See the upper photo on page 36 of the Erie/DL&W color Guide for a view of this scheme.) Decals for this scheme, as well as ERIE and EL are available from Prime Mover Decals for those that want to letter their own cars.
Also the NKP had some of these gons which were painted black. After the merger with the N&W in 1964 I imagine these were repainted black with N&W lettering, but I have never seen a picture of an N&W Greenville gon since they are not within my timeframe. The Erie cars, which were painted black, were renumbered into the Erie-Lackawanna roster beginning in the early 1960s, and I have several photos of them in E-L paint and lettering (for which, IIRC, Life-Like didn't issue a model). That's certainly one possibility. DT&I's Greenville-design gons were also painted black, but in the mid-'60s all (or almost all) of them were in auto frame service with racks installed for stacking frames on end. WP's gons were black also, but L-L did a factory P/L job for them and that scheme didn't change signficantly from the '40s into the '60s. Richard H.
