Were battleship gondolas used in captive service, or were they
interchanged? Also, how many railroads used them?
N&W, VGN, and C&O had them, built from 1912-1924. PRR built a single car
in 1919, and Pressed Steel built an 8-wheel 90-ton demonstrator in 1921.
C&IM had smaller 70-ton cars. Battleship gons were the unit trains of their
day, and were dumped online at Hampton Roads, or offline at Toledo (and
Sandusky for N&W). C&IM dumped their cars at Havana.
