In the form shown, never. The dome is too small. But it is
based on the 1928 cars built by General American for Southern
Pacific,
with a capacity of 12,500 gallons, standard for SP but rather
unusual
in the North American tank car fleet.
If the dome height is raised and other details improved,
this
model can be quite a good SP tank car. For UTLX and other lettering
schemes offered by Athearn, not in general. Union Tank did have
some
big tanks like this, but not of this design.
