Canadian freight cars and operations list

PBowers <waiting@...>

Canadian freight cars and operations is a new list dedicated to the discussion and study of Canadian freight cars and their operations. It covers those interested in the prototype or modelers.

Over the years Canada has had a lot of unique cars and many very specialized operations. Canadian National and Canadian Pacific while operating in the same areas for the most part met business with considerably different car fleets.

Areas that will be discussed are:

With the development of the west large volumes of grain were and still are moved by rail. Canadian railways developed a specialized fleet to move this tonnage. To move the grain a zone system was set up and grain moved from different areas on different days.

CN and CP developed considerably different fleets of cars to move ore and coal, Find out why.

At one time, vast fleets of privately owned tank cars provided transportation for a large segment of the fuel produced. What happened to them?

These are only a few of the interesting topics which will be discussed on the list.

The Canadian car fleet and its operations is an important key to modelling Canada's railways. We invite you to join the list at: <>
