Arnold, the models have the placard boards in the locations called for by the builder's original specifcations. Owners often had their own ideas about where the placard boards should be located and either specified their preferences when the cars were ordered or changed the locations after they were delivered (or, in some cases, after the cars were purchased second- or third-hand). Again, as is so often the case, the only way to know for sure is to find prototype photos of particular cars.
