"What about the Railroad in PA that retrucked its Coal Hoppers?"

I am truly amazed at the number of people who believe this myth, which
at times appears to be wishful thinking by model railroaders to run
East Broad Top hoppers on their standard gauge layouts.

The East Broad Top retrucked standard gauge freight cars at Mt. Union,
PA for interchange on narrow gauge trackage there. A special knuckle
adapter was used to allow standard gauge and narrow gauge cars to
couple. (See PRR Color Guide Vol 3, p 51 for a PRR 28730, Class X29B
on narrow gauge trucks at Mt Union). However, IT DIDN'T WORK THE
OTHER WAY. No EB&T narrow gauge cars were retrucked for standard
gauge interchange.
