I'd like a little more knowledge of freight car weighing for my layout operations.
If the RR had a scale in a town would they weigh all the outbound loads? Would grain be weighed? How 'bout hides, brick or tile? The list goes on. I've been told that only bulk cement was weighed because the weight for a carload of bagged cement was know.
If that were the case then any load that the weight could be calculated would be exempt from being weighed?
Bottom line: How many of my little cars that weigh about 4oz loaded or empty do I need to run across my non-operating scale at probably 20 scale MPH? :)
Thanks for your responses, all are appreciated, Clark Propst
