Thanks Ian, that's the one I was looking for. It has a history of changes from 1917 from more than 30 issues of the ORER.

The url as you show it gave me an error, but just using www.nakina.net works fine.

I found another site that has the codes as of 1932, 1958 and 1987. http://ca.geocities.com/wilsonbrucea@rogers.com/AARFreightCarCodes.pdf
