Pennsy got to call itself the "Standard Railroad . . ." because it
thought of it first, seems to me. Not that I'm one to defend the PRR
(for my money, the best things about that road were its Grif Teller
paintings), but I do have to wonder whether other railroads'
advertising and PR departments, realizing what a coup the Pennsylvania
had accomplished, weren't left, er, crying in their beer . . .
