Here is another oldie but goodie book from the Google book site.
This one is "The Science of Railways" by Marshall Monroe Kirkman,
Book I: Cars, Their Construction, Handling And Supervision.

There are many detailed illustrations in this book. Here is the link:

As some of you know, Google is amassing a digital library of
(mostly
older) books. Many of these books can be downloaded as PDF files,
searched by key word or topic, read on-line and displayed as plain
text for copying selected passages for personal use.

One of the works I found that would be of interest to group members
is "The Work of the Railway Carman" by Edmond K. Hogan, Brotherhood
Railway Carmen of America (1921).

In addition to interesting text material, there are photographs and
detailed drawings of freight car equipment and construction
techniques.

There are many more railroad-related books and magazines available
on
the Google book site, included railroad material in non-railroad
subject books and magazines.

Enjoy.
