Here is another oldie but goodie book from the Google book site.
This one is "The Science of Railways" by Marshall Monroe Kirkman,
Book I: Cars, Their Construction, Handling And Supervision.

As some of you know, Google is amassing a digital library of
older) books. Many of these books can be downloaded as PDF files,
searched by key word or topic, read on-line and displayed as plain
text for copying selected passages for personal use.

One of the works I found that would be of interest to group members
is "The Work of the Railway Carman" by Edmond K. Hogan, Brotherhood
Railway Carmen of America (1921).

In addition to interesting text material, there are photographs and
detailed drawings of freight car equipment and construction
