Talked to an older gentleman the other night who had an interesting
job. He was a "Car Sealer" at one of the local cement plants. His job
was to climb into every loaded box car, count the bags, close and seal
the door, write down the amount and type of cement and record the seal
number. He had to seal every door and hatch on a covered hopper.
I asked how they filled a coverd hoppers just to hear what he had to
say. He said there was no control, they just filled them up and let the
railroads weigh them. The cement would have a lot of air in it when
loaded, by the time it got to it's destination the car would probably
only be about half full.
