Not sure if this photo has been referenced here before or not...I searched the messages, but did not see anything. It is my understanding that photos of ATSF Fe-P's in original condition are rare, so thought this may be of interest to some on the list.
During the construction of Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis, it was discovered the wing was too large to get out of the shop (proverbial boat in the basement) so it was removed via a second story window onto the roof of a loaned ATSF Fe-P. Saw this on the History Channel a few years back and finally got around to searching for it.
Thanks, John. You're right that there are very few in-service photos of Fe-Ps before they got double doors and auto racks and were reclassified Fe-T in the 1930s, so us Santa Fe guys are happy to have this one.
