Re: SHPX 25000-25652 (was Tank Car Info)

The car numbers in 1952 are as follows:

25000 - 25690 except for those listed below 1958 cft 581 cars
25142
2040 cft 1 car
25162 - 25181 2850 cft
20 cars
25513 - 25542 1970 cft
30 cars
25543 - 25577 1978
cft 35 cars

The 1970 and 1978 cft cars were 40 ft OL. The 2040 was 35-10 while the 1958
were
35-9. The OL of the 2040 is not listed but the IL was 45-10.5

Also the following series 25691 - 25740 were all 1958 cft

Wide variety of cars in the same series. All of which poses the question,
why insert odd size cars in a series of 741 cars? Were they numbered such to
keep all the cars leased to one used in the same sequence?

In the 1959 ORER, the series 25000-25690 includes
the following numbers of cars with these cubic foot
capacities:

2040 cft -- 1
1978 cft -- 20

Weird, huh?

Good point! I hadn't thought of that, but it turns out that you're
correct. One of 514 cars in the 25000-25652 series of 1978 cu. ft.
two bay covered hoppers.
