Reminds me of a prototype photo in a Ted Culotta article on modelling CPR "Fowler" cars in RMC. The photo was of CP 123456.

Sometimes, there are other reasons. Photogs seemed to take photos of the unusual STMFC's in between taking the rods-down steam loco photos that Railroad Magazine's "Engine Picture Club" favoured, before Lucius Beebe changed the hobby of railfan photography.

I think photographers had a similar prejudice against beat up cars or ones weathered to the extent that the reporting marks are barely readable.
