Trucks and brake steps for Erie gondolas

Mark Heiden

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for some information regarding some Erie gondolas in the series ERIE 11000-11599, built January to May 1946. A builder's photo of ERIE 11050 can be found at:

http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/el/frt/erie11050adb.jpg

A scan of an equipment diagram for these cars can be found at:

http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/el/frt/erie-frt-3-4.gif

The diagram lists the trucks for ERIE 11000-11149 and ERIE 11350-11599 as Cast Steel Double Truss, AAR coil 1915 design. From the description and the photo, would Eastern Car Works 9053, 90-ton Bettendorf friction bearing, be a good match?

The diagram indicates an Apex Tri-Lock Metal Brake Step. Would this be the open-grid type as seen on boxcars, or some sort of metal plate with round holes in it?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark Heiden
