Re: paint scheme dates for these new Atlas tanks?
Schuyler asks
The BMX/Barrett scheme is from November 1940 -- but the prototype
car was somewhat different, being an earlier design (longer with a
smaller diameter it appears from the builder photo)
Anchor in the 1950's used a paint scheme like Warren -- light gray
or aluminum and a black underbody. I don't have any information on
black UTLX Anchor tank cars. "Anchorgas" reminds me of "Skelgas"
which I think is from the 1930's.
The Hercules paint scheme could be found in the 1960's but I don't
know if it existed in the 1950's. The photo I have has UTLX reporting
marks but has a different car number and completely different type of
car.
I have a photo of a SPX/Solvay tank car with a silver body and medium
green band and lower body -- the Atlas photo makes it look like DGLE
dark green? My photo shows a more modern, later 1950's ICC 105 tank,
probably ACF's successor design that followed the Atlas model. Whether
such a scheme was used on the 1947 design cars, I don't know.
It wouldn't surprise me a bit to find out they are all foobies.

The blurb says these are tanks built up from 1947 through the mid-50s. But
are the paint schemes shown on these cars appropriate for that time period?
