Re: Bachmann Announcements at the NMRA 2010 Train Show

Funny thing is, Bachmann is capable of making rolling stock models with good detail. Here's an example from their UK "Branchline" line--

And from their Chinese line, a tank car with what looks like decent detail--

So, why the nice North American loco's and crappy STMFC's from Bachmann? Though it may not be much of an issue, as so far what Bachmann produces in STMFC's pretty well duplicates existing models.

I guess when you're offering Thomas the tank engine trains it doesn't need much
explanation  :-)

According to their publicity document, Bachmann will be announcing a
USRA twin hopper in HO scale at the NMRA 2010 Train Show, that started
today. The road names will be PRR, C&O, B&O, WM, D&H, and Clinchfield.

?????

Bob, wasn't this announced or at least leaked months ago? Or was
that MTH? Anyway, it doesn't look any better in the PDF file than
an Accurail USRA hopper, which costs 1/2 as much.

And the HO sliding door box car?? What a HOOT! It's got a diagonal
panel roof (terribly rendered if that test shot is real) and 5/5
WWII dreadnaught ends and an improved Youngstown door. It's like
one of those rubber-mold Athearn knockoffs you find at flea markets!

How can Bachmann produce such wonderful steam locomotives and such
awful freight cars?
