Last night I finaly talked myself into cutting up an Intermountain 8000 gal tank to shorten it for use as a kitbashed 6000 gal UTLX x-3. It turned out to be simpler than I thought. It only took a little over one hour to measure, mark, cut and glue the tank. On cylinders I use painters tape to carefully mark the cuting edge and then after cutting slightly beyond the tape I sand back to the edge of the tape. I have two more to do and I am guessing they will go significantly faster.

Just what Frank Hodina did when making the tank pattern for the Sunshine 6000 gal X-3.
