I need to correct my earlier post on kitbashing these cars. It was the Nov/Dec 1986 issue of Model Railroading that the article appeared in, not RMJ. And it was a Walthers kit, from the former Pacific HO line, that supplied the sides. The article called for using the roof and ends from an Athearn boxcar; this was in the days when suitable parts were not available separately. The article still is useful as a guide to approximating these cars. I still have a few of the Walthers kits in my stash, though they may go to other projects since I picked up a couple of the Sunshine kits recently.
