I haven't done a lot of research on USRA 55-ton twin hoppers but the USRA allocations are not the whole story with regard to the railroads and number series that are prototypical.

For example, the P&WV installed three series of hoppers in 1923-1926 that were virtually identical to the USRA 55-ton twin hoppers. The series are 2000-2429, 2600-2999, and 3000-3999. There are photos on the P&WV HiLine web site.

Some of these cars were rebuilt starting in the mid 1940s with channel side ribs. Some of the rebuilds kept the same number and some were renumbered.

The NYC had a large number of USRA 55-ton twin hoppers that were installed after the USRA period. The Charlie Smith article in the 3rd Qtr 1980 issue of the NYC Society magazine The Central Headlight says that NYC lines were allocated 3,000 twins by the USRA, acquired an additional 5,500 during 1920 and 1921, and 3,856 more that were slightly different in 1922 and 1923.
