Gentlemen,
I’ll add to this from my recent experience. I placed a $140 order on 11-3 and received it on 12-14. Jerry acknowledged the order & followed up with a note on its status in late November. I wonder why there are some that seem to fall through the cracks.

Fellas,
I am sorry to see this; I have had good relations and dealings with Mr. Glow. Orders have arrived in excellent condition. A few have been slow, but most very satisfactory.
I hope this helps some. BRad Andonian

Dave, Plans for these cars appear in the Aug. 1998 Mainline Modeler. Scott Haycock Modeling Tarheel country in the Land of Enchantment
Based on Eric's reply, some of these C of G cars might have made it to places like Minneapolis & St Paul. If that is the case I could model one for a CB&Q train on the C&I branch (Aurora. IL to Twin Cities) of the "Q". Now if I could only get some good plans I might just be able to scratch build on of these in O-Scale Proto 48! Oh, yes, where to find decals for these PS-2 two bay covered hoppers in O-Scale?

Actually, much of the kaolin for coating paper was used in New Engand and the northern Midwest. The central Georgia region was the primary source.

Dave, In the Southeast, a lot of kaolin was used in papermaking. My understanding is that kaolin is what gives paper that smooth finish, as opposed to newsprint, etc. Scott Haycock Modeling Tarheel country in the Land of Enchantment I am not a C of G modeler but have found this thread most informative. Since I didn't know what kaolin was, nor what it could be used for, I had to resort to Google as my friend. http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/science-medicine/kaolin So now I know it is most commonly found in the US in Georgia and is used most often in the production of white china. Fertilizer, and kaolin, too.
In the early days mostly cement. Later they were used for grain and other commodities. On the SR drawings they are referred to as cement hoppers

Q: What were these covered hoppers used for?
Feed, Kaolin, Cement, and Clay mostly, although the standard "any dry powdered commodity" could be hauled in much the same manner. Sugar was reserved for a group of 4180 cuft Airslides delivered in the post-1960 era. Justin May
Also fertilizer, at least in the years immediately following the span of this list. There was a recent discussion on the MFCL about a photo of PS-2 CG 997 on a Penn Central team track at Medford NJ in 3-68. Pink spillage in several spots on the ground near the portable unloader's spout suggested that the cargo probably had been fertilizer. Dave Sieber, Reno NV

Kaolin, was, and is still, a major traffic commodity in the Sandersville Ga area. Being that the Sandersville connected with the C of G I would assume they hauled a lot of this product in the Central cars

This is beyond the scope of this groups era, but how about thegreen lettered scheme started in the 60's, after Southern absorbed it? Any repainted CofG freight car after June 17, 1963 was subject to be repainted into the Southern style block "Central of Georgia" scheme. The application to boxcars was generally in white, whereas the application of black and green Central of Georgia lettering was applied to various covered hoppers. Typically the black and green schemes were applied by Southern Railway shop forces. Cabs (caboose) were subject to this scheme as well and as such were lettered in white. Most photographs I've seen show the earliest white "CENTRAL OF GEORGIA" scheme applied in 1964 to a group of 86' auto parts boxcars. STMFC content - The Southern style block scheme was applied nearly 10 years after the last 4-8-4 Big Apple was retired. Justin May

The cabooses and some of the diesel switchers had a script version of "The Right Way" applied during the 40's, some lasting into at least the mid 50's.

Larry, It varies depending on what cars you are looking at. The end reporting marks are different. Some had C.of Ga and some used CG. I have never come across a photo of C. of Ga. used on the sides of a car and I have studied the freight cars extensively.
