Well, that's a relief.  I thought it was just me, and I thought my inability to complete the process was the reason I couldn't see any images.

I was attempting to access some articles last night, could get text only, no images. Tried two different computers, same thing, so knew it was not my browser blocking something. My account is still valid. But noticed this message on their site:

    Technical Difficulties on TrainLife

Posted by Dan Larson June 17

Attention TrainLife members. We are aware of this issues here on TrainLife and appreciate your pateince as we try to work on a resolution. Unfortunately we don't currently have a developer on staff so the fix is coming slower than we would like. Please bare with us as we work on this. Happy Railroading :)

Hopefully this is a temporary matter and they get it resolved.

On another list, the question of the problem with TrainLife came up, and a post said that they were aware of the problem with the site and were working on it. They don't have a website developer on staff and that is why it is taking awhile to fix the site.

As to signing up, I seem to recall trying to do that myself a couple of years ago. I just go to and use the site without any issues (the current problem aside). Since you don't need to sign up to access the site, maybe the signup component just doesn't work.

Re: Fallen flags web-site...What happened?

A&Y Dave in MD

I have moved and hosted two "fallen" rail sites in static form. I used to worry about what will happen to A&Y info. I have now shared CDs and or DVDs with data and photos with most anyone who shows an interest.

I also try to be clear to my family that hard copy originals to the right historical society or archive.

I too have been waiting trainlife approval, but I thought it might be I lost something in spam filter.

Why have I been thinking that somewhere near Carlsbad, NM was a large Helium loading

site when the government controlled it completely? I know that one palce it was unloaded

was the South Weymouth Naval Air Station in Mass. which at lest up until the time I was

in college had a large dirigible hanger. Whether or not it is still there I have no idea.

What is Goodyear planning to transport helium in for it's new Zeppelin dirigibles. the first of which I understand was delivered in mid-March?

Re: Richard...on the "lighter" side

I can't think of any freight car information I was able to provide to Richard "in return."  But I once went up to Sandra at their WestRail table at a meet, to point out a spelling error on their label for a Nickel Plate Road car.

She said something like, "I can't wait to show this to him-- you know, he's a college professor!"

It also depends on the era, as new plants came on line in the 60's and later as the Govt privatized the He supply.

Gentlemen:
Helium cars were loaded at, I believe, Hugoton, Kansas, on the Cimarron
Valley District. I do remember seeing empty cars at Boise City waiting to go
back for loading in 1977-78 when I was working on the Colorado Division.

Cordially,

John, they were also loaded at Amarillo (Rock Island) and Excel (AT&SF), TX.  Probably a number of other places where helium was abundant.  Jerry Michels
