Anyhow the link to the book directly is:

Red Caboose Mather Meat Reefers
webotkin
Hello,
I just finished building four Red Caboose 37’ Mather Meat Reefer kits (Armour, Rath, Swift and Hormmell). From the instructions written by Richard Hendrickson, it mentions Rath, Hygrade, Hunter, Kohrs and Oscar Mayer, but not Armour, Swift or Hormmell as lessees.
The kits were apparently designed “as built” based on converted Mather stock cars. I model the early 1950s’, so I replaced the “K” brake system with “AB”, but I have a question about trucks. The kits are supplied with Andrews trucks and I question whether this is correct and if so, did those trucks last until the 1950’s?
Thanks.

Re: Those damn kits!

Dave, What is your favorite software for a virtual reality
railroad? I have thought about this but never ventured into it.
I was just thinking, somewhat tongue in cheek. Considering all the
expenses we have at the Amarillo Railroad Museum, maybe we should just do the
Santa Fe from Canadian, TX to Clovis, NM, as a virtual railroad. Would
definitely give us a lot of space to put in one huge computer and hundreds of
screens. Lots of virtual engineers, a dispatcher, virtual tower
operators. The whole railroad for a very small cost. Might even attract a
totally new generation of virtual model railroaders. Skills would not be
traditional (assembling kits, painting, decaling), but creating CAD
frameworks for prototypical cars and correct paint schemes. I can see a
100 car reefers set being marketed on a CD.

Athearn Coors and Carnation
Richard Townsend
Back in the yellow box days Athearn produced models of reefers decorated for Coors and Carnation. The Coors reefer is yellow with a logo for Coors Banquet beer and the Carnation reefer is white with the milk can and Carnation Milk in red on the sides. If you search eBay for "Athearn Coors" and "Athearn Carnation" you will see what I mean. Neither car's P/L scheme is like any prototype car I have ever seen photos of. The white Carnation P/L scheme bears no resemblance to the yellow schemes that FGEX and General American ran for them and have been available from Branchline and TMI and others, and the yellow Coors scheme looks nothing like the famous white one that TMI and MDC did versions of. So my question is this: are these Athearn schemes total foobies, or did such cars ever exist, if even for a railroad fair of some kind?

Aley, Jeff A
I did a quick google search for Roland Versacamm; these are $20,000 printers. And more to the point, the ink is UV-cured and is waterproof and alcohol-proof, and is flexible.

I can vouch for the quality of the decals. Peter has produced a pair of custom sheets for my Passenger Cars as well as a series of custom sets for the SFRH&MS heavy weight passenger kits. The Gold and dulux imitation gold are very good. The quality for STMFC decals should be equal.
