Below are the current links. Jim Lancaster is an SP modeler and great information source on Southern California’s citrus packing houses. He owns a fairly large layout in Tustin, CA.

Help with UP 961100-961199 in 1942
Hello Everyone, If you have a 7-1942 or 10-1942 ORER I would be very grateful if you could look up UP 961100-961199 and share the the car count and inside height. This was a small series of 4 cars that originated in 4-1942 and vacated 10 and 11-1942. The series does not appear in the 4-1942 ORER. They may have been the first of the "bomber boxes" on the UP, hence the curiosity about the inside height reported. All 4 cars were class A-50-15 and renumbered into 561100-561199 (40 cars) which did have an inside height of 12-4 for Boeing B-17 wings. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Please respond direct to my email: elombard@... Eric Homewood, IL

Pere Marquette Decal Set Available
T.J. Stratton
Folks: I'm sure Smokebox Graphics is new decal name for many of you. After seeing the available H.O. decals on the website this past weekend, I ordered all three available sets. They arrived very promptly in yesterday's mail. The quality of these decals appears to be very high! I'm looking forward to applying the decals in the near future. It's great to have another source for steam era freight cars! TJ Stratton Maumee, OH. To: STMFC@... From: STMFC@... Date: Fri, 13 Nov 2015 18:00:13 -0800 Subject: [STMFC] Pere Marquette Decal Set Available Smokebox Graphics is excited to bring a new waterslide decal
sheet to the HO scale market. Pere Marquette Railway freight cars can be
lettered with this new set, DF0187, which covers up to five pieces of equipment
and retails for $9.
As I began to model the freight cars my grandfather photographed, I discovered that accurate Pere Marquette lettering (especially their distinctive numerals) was difficult to obtain. This decal set was created to fill that void, and contains data, number jumbles, and reweigh dates to letter many classes of PM equipment. A data sheet with selected lettering diagrams and a decal sheet layout is included.
These sets have been screen printed in Italy by Cartograf. The quality of the printing is outstanding – even the wording within the equipment trusts and builders’ marks is legible.
More information, data sheets, and ordering is available at http://www.smokeboxgraphics.com
Comments, questions, critiques, and complaints are welcome, but MUST be sent to me OFF LIST at smokeboxgraphics AT gmail.com.
Thank you,

Years ago the late Terry Wegmann made a mold for an early Dreadnaught end to replace the ends on an Athearn reefer. He made the mold without the engraved ladder brackets and ran a few test shots. Satisfied, he went back and added the ladder brackets. He regretted not making a lot more of the 1st shots. Maybe now while you are still in the design period you might consider this? Especially for the ends, which are far more work to remove detail than the sides. Re: Accurail 36-foot double-sheathed boxcars
Scott H. Haycock
Dave, I'm not sure I grasp your point. Garth models 1958; I model 1959. EVERY car on our railroads falls within the timeframe of this list. The question relates to how many, if any of these cars survived until the late 1950's. It goes to whether or not these cars would be credible in our era. Scott Haycock I am not sure I understand the point of (or perhaps the need for) your post. You model two years before the cutoff date for this group, so that fact that these 36 foot cars are not relevant to you is entirely predictable.
But the group is supposed to embrace the period 1900 to 1960. I model 1934 -- right in the middle. There are others (perhaps just a few) that model earlier. So, for some of us, these kits might be highly relevant (they are all, after all, SUF cars; many ran through the 1930s and beyond).
I would guess that 85% of the chatter on this site is of no use or interest to me because it deals with things that post-date my layout. I know how to deal with that fact: I make liberal use of the delete button. Everyone has the same "filtering" option.

Re: L&N 36-foot Box Cars & Ventilated Boxcars
Scott H. Haycock
Bill, I'm with you 100% on this, being a SE modeler as well. While I'm the sort who wants the model in my grubby paws, before I jump to conclusions about it's applicability, this model should have all kinds of kitbashing applications, with the 36' length, the different underframes, and especially those reported inverse ends! I like some others want to see how well this tooling adapts to meat reefers! Scott Haycock Both groups of cars had outside metal roofs. To maximize versatility I sincerely hope Dennis will design the tooling so that the ends and doors are separate. One thought I have is that this new kit would be a great subject for the 2017 "Shake & Take" to do a L&N ventilated car with resin and photo-etched parts. But then I again I am prejudiced. Bill Welch

After I sent off my post, I discovered that I have a rather poor plan and a single photo of L&N 8893 in the RMC ROLLING STOCK PLAN BOOK. I suspected that the ends were inset (they don't show in the photo). Depending on the ends, this could be an easy conversion of Dennis' fishbelly steel end car. Yours Aye, Garth

Hi Brian, IIRC, Plano was developing the etch around the time Centralia released their upgrade modernised ATSF caboose with an etched walk, and then Intermountain released their ACF also with an etched walk, and I can only assume Plano didn’t feel there was enough of a market. I hope he wasn’t correct (VBG) as we are planning to release the product once Keith makes a couple of small revisions for us. It will include step tread and platform tread etches. Cheers Dave North
Never could figure out why this was discontinued in the first place.
