Westerfield #1171 for Wine door locks; none that I know of (separately) for Enterprise, but you can rob components from Accurail or Tichy USRA twin hopper kits.

Were any of the Carbon County Railway hopper cars of this same design? I know

they had the same double clasp brakes as found on other United States Steel road hoppers.

Cleaning brass? But first we'd have to find out how it affects soldered fixtures as well as possibly super glue or other adhesives used instead of solder. And I doubt it would be practical if there are styrene parts.

I cobbled together a couple of leftover resin bits to represent the hopper door latches, once in operation they won’t be noticed anyway. Which made me want to ask: “What’s in our wallet?” No, no, no...Does anyone sell detail parts for these latches? I know there’s more that one brand?

Yes, I built one and my friend Mike Moore bought two or three? Seems you got one P2K carbody to cut and add resin splices. Decals were from Micro Scale, I believe? Mike and I got together about tree times before the upcoming CCB meet to build the cars. We did display them there, mine was done, Mike’s weren’t. I sold mine long ago and I doubt Mike ever finished his. Neat models. You might check old CCB photos to see if there were any photos taken of Mike’s unfinished models?
 
Speaking of CCB, one of the appeals to northerners is being able to soak up a bit of warmth in early winter, even if it’s cold be Florida standards. Yesterday I had the pleasure of seeing this in reverse. A granddaughter graduated from UNI in Cedar Falls Ia. We’d had 5-6” of snow the day before and we excepting 30 mph winds and dropping temps. Roads were good for the 90 min. drive, with just blowing snow. The other grandparents have been wintering in the Orlando area for a month or better and were accustom to temps in the 80s they said. They had flown into the Twin Cities and drove to Waterloo in the snow storm the day before. They were not at all amused at my jabs about the beautiful new snow and crisp air, especially this morning for their trip back to the TCs to catch their flight back to warmth. Temp now is –22, feels like –39. I love it!
A friend was once asked why he didn’t winter in a warmer climate?  His answer was classic “Because I can’t take my basement with me.”

Jim I do not have the stock car kit' however, I do have an NP reefer InterMountain kit I am building now. In this kit, Stan provided only resin sides and ends. IM roof and underframe to be used. Stan included a sheet with a few basic instructions of additional
work to be done in addition to the IM kit instructions. The kit did not include decals; however, Stan had a sheet of decal sources and contact information.

of two of the three, I don't have one that I can put my fingers on of Larry

50' Mather stock car.

Stan must have sold a modest amount of the 50' Mather stock cars. He approached me for some kits, as at that time I had a lot of those cheap P2K kits from dealer close-outs. He later came back for more. I would hazard a guess that he could easily have made up about 25 of those kit-bash kits.

The car is assigned to Oldsmobile  Lansing Mich. for sheet metal parts. 

The car is listed on page 60 (page 94 of the PDF) in Freight Cars Assigned to Special Service on the MCRR dated June 1947. 

The file can be found on the Canada Southern website located here 

The booklet lists many NYC cars assigned to the automotive industry. It lists both loading and receiving locations for some cars.

The January 1998 issue of MR had an article by Jim Teese on building a car from 2 P2K kits. The prototype shown was a Nickel Plate car photographed in May 1966. I have an almost unreadable copy downloaded from the MR website during one of their "free" days. The CB&Q also had 40, #50200-50239. The cars were spliced Circa 1952 and the Burlington leased them in 1963. A photo appears in the Bukrlington Bulletin #25 which is dedicated to Bukrlington Live Stock operations. The articles says the NYC also had some of these cars and that they were often see on the Q. If I had a better copy of the MR article, I might try to build one.

Orange Crate Loading Requirements During World War II

From about 1922 the typical load of oranges shipped from Californian was 462 crates. This was based on an application by the California Citrus League approved by the Trans-Continental Freight Bureau.

 

From sometime in 1942 to sometime in 1947 the Office of Defense Transportation ordered, probably through the ICC, that refrigerator cars were to be loaded with a minimum of 693 crates. Due to the high amount of damage to loads, the order  subsequently was modified to reduce the amount to a minimum of 561 crates. The order was completely rescinded in 1947 and the 462 crate standard re-emerged.

 

Can anyone tell me the effective dates and the Service Order numbers related to these war time loading requirements?
