My bet is that the whole scene was just staged for the camera including the "highball"

What are the odds of a Life photographer capturing one of the Virginian's 15 50' flat cars loaded with military equipment in Louisiana?  I don't think he chose that car for it's rarity, rather the action of the KCS trainman giving the highball in front of the 77th Division sentry.

I get the "You must log in to continue." message with following complete links;

However, I can get in, I found, by shorting the link to;

BUT, was not able to find the photo. Either I'm looking in the wrong place, or am overlooking it.

I really do appreciate everyone's suggestions though! Thank you all very much!

Fred-
South West Scale makes more than one pair of superior doors. The very last South West Scale door offering was a (Ready?) 10-0 IH 7 panel Superior, with a thin top panel. I don't know of any other users for the door than the SP and the GN. This door debuted in 1949.

Re: Superior doors

Andy, the IMWX 7 panel doors are not evenly spaced. The 6 top panels are 4mm high, the lowest panel is 5mm, although it has a rivited strip molded on it.
These IMWX doors will do nicely for the 10' IH car I'm modeling.
cheers

Re: Superior doors

Thanks Bill! Found them in one of the IMWX kits I wasn't aware of I still had... ;))
They're a fraction too short, but a small strip on styrene will do fine.

Re: Kwik Poly Castings?

Not necessarily ... fillers can make the material go further, or decrease
its density, or otherwise modify its properties.

Hi Rob, Ron, and List Members,

Note on their web site it mentions fillers in several places, in particular "its ability to combine with tremendous amounts of
filler, which can then be utilized in filling voids, dents, pits, and gaps in almost any situation".

I suspect that if a filler is needed, it may be because the material on its own without the filler may shrink. This would make it
unsuitable for making castings.

Hi, Bill,

I realize that you have a plan for the ball room. That assumes we have the same vendors each yr. So, how do you handle new vendors if we don’t lose any? Also, how much space are we allocating and where is it located for those wanting to sell their own stuff?

Like a lot of us the passage of time is forcing some of us to down size and reduce the fleet and library. I know in the past limited table space in the model display rooms has been available to sell stuff as individuals. My surplus is reaching a point where I probably need a table. What's the procedure to get space in a public area of the Hilton?

Thanks,

Looking for Tennessee Central article in Nov. 1951 issue of THE RAILWAY CONDUCTOR

Steven D Johnson

Group,

Does anyone have the Nov. 1951 issue of THE RAILWAY CONDUCTOR magazine in their collection?  I’m looking for an article in that issue entitled “Tennessee Central Hauls Fortune in Tobacco.”  If anyone has this issue, could I please obtain a scan or photocopy of that article?

Thanks!

    Also I've never heard of this before;

"fill a small Dixie cup full of silicone windshield sealer (available in most auto stores)---- allow silicone mold to cure (usually takes 48 hours)"

    If it's a windshield sealer wouldn't it stick to the master?

HO 10'-6" IH Superior doors

Andy Carlson

I know of two 6' wide Superior doors for a 10-6 IH car.
1) 7 even spaced panels by IMWX/Red Caboose from the '37 AAR kit
2) thin top panel 7 panel used by SP & GN in 1949, from South West Scale

I am somewhat desperate; I need one person to fill out the crew on Trains 95/96 on Santa Fe's Alma branch on Sunday, October 8th beginning at noon for lunch.  One crew member bailed and then his replacement bailed.
