XM boxcars traveled everywhere. A model of this car is now available from Yarmouth with decals for either a BCR or Green paint scheme.

When I first saw this photo I focused on the eight-hatch Canadian Pacific refrigerator car. From what I understand the presence of such cars in Southern California was not all that unusual.
What I missed and sharp-eyed John Peckham saw was the West India Fruit boxcar just ahead of the two tank cars.
Would these boxcars have been frequent visitors to the West Coast?

instead this year. On that Wednesday, looking for some physical activity, I saw Bob checking in and asked if he needed help. I got my workout unloading his truck and assisting in setting up his room. Those cases are incredibly heavy. He told me the story of his troubles with the Springfield meet and that he will, indeed, be there this year but set up in the hotel across the street per usual. Oh yes, I got a jar of Swedish grog out of the deal. Bill Darnaby

The cars were REPAINTED bright red with the wing scheme. As originally painted, the cars had very spartan lettering. I have an ACF builder's photo. I only have post-1960 photos of the 245xx cars - green paint, no wings, large DF. Tim
Going thru some old kit that have been in storage came a upon a CB&T car #26451 with the broken wing scheme - foobe or not?

Re: Frisco Boxcar 163270
Dennis, a good shot of one of the steel sheathed 10'6" cars with an open door shows a wood lining. Tim O'Connor
That was pretty common on single sheathed cars built in the late twenties; the last couple series of Soo Line cars have that also. Instead of triangular gussets between the posts and plate, the band of steel, which was relatively thick, 1/4" or so, formed a continuous gusset. Since it was heavier than the steel the Frisco used to sheath the rest of the side, it was left in place during the re-build.

A recent post by Tony Thompson <http://modelingthesp.blogspot.com/2018/01/auto-industry-traffic-part-4-model-cars.html> reminded me that I have the same referenced HO scale DT&I 50' auto parts car (very early Athearn wood and metal model) that I would like to repair, make some basic improvements to and place into service on my layout. I reviewed Ted's Focus on Freight Cars Volume 5 and did not see any photos of this particular DT&I car although there were several photos of very similar PRR cars. Could someone point me towards a prototype photo of the DT&I car or would I be OK using the PRR photos as guides for placement of grabs, retainer valve, cut levers and general car end details? Thanks, Jerry Breon Mooresville, NC

Interesting comment, since Don Snoddy, then director of the UP Museum, told me that upon taking possession of MP offices everywhere, most records had been removed and could "not be located." Seems odd that UP people could ransack offices while they still belonged to MP. Don's charter was to identify and preserve MP records, but found awfully few remaining. Incidentally, Don was also in charge of the same job when the SP takeover occurred, and he said relatively few things were missing. Re: Interesting Rock Island salt car

As a complete aside. These mines, as they were mined out, were used to store many corporate records in the event of a nuclear attack. The Missouri Pacific corporate records are/were stored there. I was privileged to visit them for three days in the 1980s when working on my caboose book and before lawyers got in on the act and closed access to the records because of the employee records stored there. Tons of corporate records for the Mopac and most if not all of its predecessor and merged lines, and even full erection diagrams for MoPac steam locomotives stored in aluminum tubes. Considering some of the higher-ups in the UP freely pilfered company records after the merger, I doubt they still exist 1000 feet underground in Hutchinson.. Jerry Michels
